The TULSA Procedure is a customizable, predictable, and incision-free ablation of a physician-defined region of the prostate. The TULSA Procedure physician can customize the prostate area needing ablation to fit each patient’s individual needs. Depending on your prostate disease, you will work with your physician to customize the TULSA Procedure so that it is right for you.

The TULSA Procedure is Flexible

During the TULSA Procedure, each section of the prostate may be reached by thermal ultrasound energy. This energy is delivered from a device inside the urethra and is used to ablate prostate tissue. Where along the device the energy comes from, depends on the prostate’s size and the areas that need ablation. Your physician can draw boundary lines with millimeter precision around the prostate areas that need ablation. This controls how far the ultrasound energy travels within the prostate, thereby controlling exactly what areas of the prostate are ablated. Depending on your needs, your physician may determine that not all areas of your prostate need to be ablated.

Targeted or Whole Gland Ablation

Your physician may draw boundary lines around a specific region of the prostate gland (figure 1) or the entire prostate gland (figure 2), depending on your condition.

Large Volume Prostate Ablation

The TULSA Procedure can also ablate large volume prostate tissue. In Figure 3, the patient requested that their neurovascular bundle (NVB) be spared to ensure that their functional abilities are preserved after the procedure. As a result, the physician modified the boundary line so that the necessary prostate tissue is ablated, and the NVB is protected. This is a customized ablation, tailored to fit the specific needs of the patient.

Conclusion

Before the TULSA Procedure, the patient works with their physician to customize their procedure. Depending on how big your prostate is, and where your disease is located, the TULSA Procedure is customizable for you, to ensure your prostate needs are met, as well as your functional goals after.
